Women in Transportation aims to interest teen girls in transportation careers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Women in Transportation Seminar (WTS) of Greater Kansas City is recruiting and mentoring high school girls who want to learn more about careers in transportation.
Kim Curry is a highway transportation engineer at Burns & McDonnell and the secretary of Women In Transportation Seminar. All girls ages 13 to 18 are invited. It’s a hands-on, interactive event. Seven tables will be set-up with Women in Transportation Seminar presenters at each table talking about the financially lucrative and personally rewarding careers in transportation. “Transportation is way more than engineering or way more than planning and construction,” said Curry. Transportation careers keep the airline industry, trucking, railroads and shipping in action.
“It involves sciences, it can involve communication,” Curry added.
